Group Visit Checklist

After your booking application has been accepted by the Lizard Island Research Station, use this checklist for planning your student group, special interest group or commercial visit to the Lizard Island Research Station.

Arrange charter flights between Cairns and Lizard Island

If applicable, organise freight of equipment to Cairns for on-forwarding to Lizard Island by barge

Six to four months before trip

If required, apply for collecting permits

Six months before the trip

Pay deposit - an invoice will be sent

Three months before trip

If permits have been applied for but have not been received, check with permitting authorities that applications are progressing

If any members of the group will be scuba diving, check that those people have all the documents required to qualify as scuba divers at the Station

Two months before trip

You should have heard from the Research Station advising you of barge dates for your trip and dates by which orders must be with food suppliers in Cairns

Contact the Research Station if you do not have this information

 

One month before trip

For each prospective scuba diver in the group, send to the Station by fax:

1) a completed diver registration form

2) a copy of certification card

3) log details of last two dives (or of all dives if diver has less than 20 hours post-training experience)

4) copy of current diving medical certificate
