Tides

Lizard Island experiences two high and two low tides over a 24 hour cycle. The two daily cycles are inequal. During the Australian winter, the lowest tides occur during daylight, while in summer the lowest tides occur at night. The greatest tidal amplitude is about 3 metres.

Tidal predictions for Lizard Island are prepared for the Research Station by the National Tidal Facility at Flinders University in South Australia. These predictions may be viewed at: http://www.ntf.flinders.edu.au/TEXT/TIDES/CALENDARS/tb/
